A small contribution toward keeping these stories alive
People often ask me why I chose to build Ramayan Quest.
I have spent more than ten years developing games. Most of my professional experience is in 3D game development, and I am comfortable with the pipelines used for larger commercial projects. But throughout my career, I found myself drawn to a different direction: simple, meaningful experiences supported by painterly art.
I have always believed that technology can do more than entertain. It can help preserve culture, spark curiosity, and make learning enjoyable.
India's ancient epics are among the richest sources of stories and wisdom in the world. Their relevance has not diminished with time. They continue to offer lessons about courage, duty, compassion, leadership, sacrifice, and living with integrity.
Among them, I chose the Ramayana because I see it as a timeless foundation. More than an epic, it is a guide to life. Many later traditions and ethical discussions are deeply connected to it, making it a wonderful starting point for anyone beginning their journey into Indian literature and philosophy.
That is how Ramayan Quest began.
The idea was simple:
What if learning the Ramayana could be interactive?
Instead of reading facts alone, people could discover stories, answer questions, unlock characters, play mini-games, and gradually become familiar with one of humanity's greatest epics.
One story from the Ramayana has always stayed with me more than any other, not a battle or a victory, but the transformation of Valmiki. The journey from a sinner to a sage reminds me that every person has the ability to change, grow, and create something meaningful. It is one of the most inspiring stories I know.
Outside game development, I have always loved traditional painting. Artists like John Singer Sargent and Anders Zorn inspired my appreciation for expressive, painterly brushwork. Although I enjoy oil painting the most, I also practice watercolor because it refreshes my mind and allows me to explore ideas freely. That artistic influence naturally found its way into Ramayan Quest's visual style.
Starting my own studio was never just about building another game.
If, during this short life, we can create something we genuinely enjoy that also benefits others, that is a life well spent.
I am not building Ramayan Quest with the expectation of massive success.
If even one person tells me, "I learned something new about the Ramayana because of your app," I will consider that a meaningful achievement.
I also know this is only the beginning.
Today's Ramayan Quest is an introduction, a friendly first step for children, families, and anyone unfamiliar with the Ramayana. My hope is that future updates will go much deeper, bringing richer stories, greater historical context, more wisdom, and new ways to experience this timeless epic.
This project is my small contribution toward keeping these stories alive for the next generation.
If Ramayan Quest encourages even a few people to explore the Ramayana further, then every hour spent creating it has been worthwhile.
